TV and losing weight is often a bad mix. First of all, watching TV while sitting on your couch burns almost zero calories. We all know that getting fit and losing weight requires us to be active and watching TV is not much of an activity.
Let's face it, TV has ruled our lives ever since its invention and it is almost certain to rule human lives for many years to come. I can't blame people to like TV so much. The thing is just an amazing piece of information and entertainment. I can't imagine my house without a television set but I never let it become a reason for gaining so much fat weight.
I won't even try to convince you to stop watching your favorite shows. Personally, it would take a cataclysmic event to take my concentration away from an episode of Lost. However, let me point out that there is something productive you can do while in front of the tube. You can get some exercises done while catching up with your favorite episodes. At least that way, you can still bump up your metabolism and still lose weight.
Here are some things that you can do:
1. Exercise machines
Exercise machines on TV may have outrageous claims of making you lose fat and in just a few days. Most of these assertions are too good to be true and they actually are. Yet, there's one thing they do offer and that is the opportunity to workout on a busy schedule.
These machines will still make you move and activate your bodies. Most of them can be set up in front of your TV sets without any trouble. You can still break a sweat and watch NCIS!
2. Dumbbells and Kettlebells
These little heavy things can be carried just about anywhere. You can sit on your sofa and do some concentration curls. You can even do some presses while ogling on some Baywatch reruns. Seeing some beautiful lean bodies on TV may even inspire you to do an extra set or two.
3. Bodyweight Exercises
If you are serious with your fitness, you must be able to master different ways of using your own bodyweight as resistance. Push-ups, jump squats, and dips are just some of these things. Your body is your own exercise machine.
4. Yoga and Stretches
If you are not in the mood for some intense exercises, you can do stretches and elongate your muscles. Yoga and static stretches can condition your body to a better physique.
5. Never eat in front of the TV
This last tip is not something that you should do but rather avoid at all costs. Eating in front of the tube is a surefire way of packing on unwanted calories.
